First outings

Choose sheltered water

Pick a quiet bay, a sheltered lake edge, or a slow river section with little wind. Calm surface water builds confidence.

Essentials

Check your leash and vest

Attach the leash to your ankle and confirm your life vest fits snugly before stepping onto the board. Check conditions before every outing.

Progression

Four steps to standing balance

01

Launch from the beach

Walk the board into shallow water, keeping it parallel to the shore. Hold the paddle across the deck.

02

Kneel and paddle

Kneel in the center, paddle gently with short strokes, and keep your weight low to stay stable.

03

Rise to a half-kneel

Place one foot forward and lift slowly. Keep your knees soft and your gaze on the horizon.

04

Find centered standing balance

Stand with feet hip-width apart, knees bent, and paddle moving in a steady rhythm across the water.

Advice for the first trip

Keep the first outing short and calm

Start with a short session close to shore, where you can return easily. Read the water before you enter it: smooth surface, light air, and clear visibility make a good first day.

Stop and rest when your legs or shoulders tire, since fatigue affects balance quickly. Always check the local weather, conditions, and regulations before every outing.
